343: Big Black Cloud

20130115_092633[1]Not enough sleep, insanely bad weather and a trip to get organised has bought the big black cloud over our house. What started off as a fairly innocuous comment from myself turned into some kind of battle of the wills, spate of empty silence and dodgy looks. Great, just what I wanted.

We read so much into things don’t we? My comment of ‘that was fast’ was interpreted as something like ‘too fast or not good enough’. Words are symbols that make up our world. We use them to make sense of what is around us. Actually on their own they have no meaning, only what we attach to it. When we attach meaning to something it is usually through the story of our world. When we speak there is our meaning behind the words, when we listen there is our story behind the ears. We often misinterpret situations or words because of this. This is my hobby- misinterpretation.

They say there are only ever two wars us humans have ‘How much do you love me?’ and ‘Who is in charge?’. This is what we base or our words on. This is where we bring in our stories and skewed view of the meaning behind the symbols.

Next time your big black cloud comes thundering in take a moment to think, is this about power or love? Once we identify this we can begin to see our relationships through a different lens.

Practice for today. Whatever you want from your relationships today give it first. If you want love, give love, if you want kindness, give kindness. Be bigger than yourself.
